Movie geek obsessive compulsion from the dusty corners of Hollywood

Oh yeah?

Yeah!

Membership of the collection is very random and encompasses the greats and the not so greats... Actors whose careers didn't always take off are often included in this wierd club but usually its just grandstanding an oblique knowledge of cinema's byways and back alleys...

Ah the inimitable Charles Napier. No not Mr Chekov, the other guy. Seen here in an episode of Star Trek and star of many a movie since. I first saw him in a german broadcast issue of Russ Meyer's supervixens. Seeing him dubbed in german was a great introduction to a great member of The Collection. Pay attention and you'll see him pop-up in all sorts of films, genius at work.

Robert Helpmann AKA The child catcher. A principle of the royal ballet but we shall always remember him scaring the crap out of us in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Its a kids film but he exudes pure unadulterated evil. Even Baron Bombast/Gert Fršber is scared of him and he's the King. Yes I know, Gert will be appearing here shortly.

As far as I know one of Robert's last roles was in a strange australian scifi thriller called Patrick. About a comatose boy excercising telekinetic powers from his hospital bed.

The only special significance of this film other than the great Roberto is that Patrick looked just like my mate Tickle. Yes, I have a mate called Tickle.

A fact that he strenuosly denied and which, in the manner of 17th century witchfinders logic, only goes to prove it beyond all doubt

Dustin. Now there's a tricky one. Should the little big man be in The Collection? He's not obscure and neither is he a crap actor. You're right. Dustin shouldn't be in... but his legs should be! Oh yes. He runs. Way too much.

He runs so much in his movies that it's become a scthick and thus can enter The Collection

To be fair the running has tailed off a little bit, I watched Outbreak last night and I don't think he ran at all in that. I think Dustin reserves the running for films of depth and gravitas (I quite liked Outbreak but deep it isn't). The running isn't just for getting from A to B, oh no, its a manifestation of some dramatic inner struggle for the character.

I think he should have run in The Graduate and left it at that. Marathon Man we can excuse but in Tootsie as well?

I don't think he runs in Rain Man but I'm sure he shuffles fairly rapidly after Tom Cruise, who is definately trying to run.

Must get some running clips in here.
